Life is long. Really long. Unless God sees fit to take us to heaven earlier, most of us will live anywhere from 70-90 years. There are stages along the way that come with their own set of decisions, emotions and ups and downs. Last night at Elevate we looked at the life of David and drew out some principles from his life to help us along the way.
Take some time this week to read those chapters and ask God to give you wisdom and help you apply His Word throughout your (LONG) life.
Fall Retreat (Breakaway) is September 12-14! Just as soon as fall, school, football and all the drama that is high school hit you in the face, we're here to save the day. Last year was an incredible first fall retreat. God wants to speak to you. To do that He often has to get us out of our normal surroundings. That's what Breakaway is all about. Sign up quick to reserve your spot. We leave at 5:00 on Friday September 12, but if you are involved in HS football, there is a late bus at 11:00. You can pick up a card in Bible Fellowship or Elevate or call the student office (251-2706) to register.
What is it about Axe that guys all love it but refuse to admit they wear it?

Our students have worked so hard in extremely hot conditions for the last 3 days, and it has paid off. They have made great relationships with some kids and several adults. Chris Norris got to lead a 9-year-old boy to the Lord this morning! Maggie Higdon got to see an 89-year-old lady meet Jesus after living a long life where she thought being good would get her to heaven! There has been lots of other fruit this week, and all of us will have great stories to tell.
If you are interested in a picture, there are 169 of them here on a Walgreen's gallery where you can view and print them if you'd like. You'll have to create a username and password, but it's very simple.
Tomorrow night we should be home by 7:00 p.m. (about 3 hours earlier than we expected).
What a long day! Everybody was so worn out after yesterday that we wondered what we had left in the energy tank. VBS was just as hot and just as difficult as Monday, but there were no complainers and God has used the students already. We also spent some time working in different locations today and had a great and ridiculously hot afternoon. The heat indexes here are around 105. We are being careful and lugging orange water coolers all over eastern NC.
No pictures tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow we will have some pictures posted to a Walgreen's account so that you can not only look at a lot more but also print any you want.
Tomorrow is the day we really focus in on the gospel with the kids at VBS. Pray hard for us!
Wow, 105 heat index is a little warm. We are all adjusting to each other's sweatiness and stink and are having a great time. Everybody is worn out after a day in the sun, but we had a great day. Each of the 3 groups had a great turnout at their VBS location, with the promise of more tomorrow.
We also got to spend some time doing some cleanup around houses of some widows from FBC Leland. One lady just couldn't believe that we would come all the way from Knoxville and wind up doing work at her house. It was a great moment for several of our kids. We also spent some time surveying a local subdivision and 15 of us had the opportunity to serve dinner at the Salvation Army.
Keep praying for us. Here are a few pictures from the day.
Our first day here was spent at church at FBC Leland, at the beach with some students from there, and then back to organize our VBS. This is a great church that God is using in the community. We'll be spending the week with their Hispanic pastor in 2 mobile home parks and 1 other neighborhood.
No major sunburns or other news to report yet. Just continue to pray for our week. Ask God to bring kids out to our backyard VBS projects and to give us the attitude of servants.
Leigh Ann Bolton has come through on the camera front, so here's a picture of the group. Aubri and Rachel really like having their picture taken.
No tropical depression so far, which is always good news. Things are clear and sunny here and we're safe at the Holiday Inn. Parents and those back home, please pray for a week of seeing God work in the lives of students and in those we minister to. Ask Him to use us to bring people to Himself!
Ben kinda sorta forgot his camera so if we can connect someone else's this week, there will be pictures. Otherwise, it'll have to wait until we get home. Sorry 'bout that.
